Toyota Etios launch in Dec, set to compete against Maruti Swift, Dezire
Toyota, the Japanese automobile maker which is also the world’s largest auto maker is up for some serious competition with Maruti Suzuki India. The car manufacturer is gearing to launch its latest car model, the Toyota Etios in the country where Maruti’s popular car Swift reigns.
Toyota Etios will be available in both hatchback and sedan versions in the country competing against rival Swift in the hatchback segment and Dezire in the sedan. While the company is launching the Etios sedan in December, the Etios hatchback is up for a launch some time early next year.
Toyota expects half of its global sales to come from small car segment in the developing countries such as China, Brazil and India therefore have planned to launch the car first in India, which is a crucial market for Toyota to be followed by China and Brazil. Etios will be launched in two engine options in India, the 1.2 L petrol and the 1.5L petrol version. Toyota Etios price in India is yet to be announced but we expect the sedan Etios to be priced at Rs. 6 lacs for the 1.2 L engine version and Rs. 7,.50 lac for the 1.5 L Etios sedan.
Toyota Etios 1.2 L petrol engine is expected to generate maximum power of 80 bhp while the 1.5L petrol engine will produce a maximum power of 100 bhp. On the exterior, the Etios will feature body colored door handles, 6-spoke alloy wheels and rear side view mirrors. The interior of the car will come with a variety of features that deliver contemporary look and better performance.
The interior of the Toyota Etios car will come with centrally mounted instrumental panel including speedometer and trip meter placed in the middle of the dashboard. The steering wheel has a dual tome with 3 spokes. The vehicle has power steering, remote central locking, power windows, steering mounted auto control and rear defogger. It also has a full touch screen music system with MP3, DVD and FM radio. Etios also ranks high in terms of safety thanks to dual SRS airbags, ABS and EBD.
Toyota plans to grow with Etios in India and penetrate step-by-step and has a very conservative sales target of 70,000 units initially. The company also plans to start exporting after it meets the sales target for the first year. Toyota Motor Corporation has already set up a new plant in Bangalore to produce the vehicle.
