Toyota Etios hatchback and sedan in Diesel variants soon in India
Growing demand for diesel cars especially in small and mid segment in Indian auto car market has caught attention of Toyota Kirloskar JV in India. The diesel variants keeps the running cost of cars very low which attracts customers to go for diesel variant cars. The JV is open to bring diesel variants of Etios hatchback and sedan cars by the end of this year.
Toyota Etios hatchback and sedan will be manufactured at TKM plant near Bangalore. The plant is built with an investment of Rs. 3,000 crore. Around 50 percent of the plant has been completed. Initially it will have annual capacity of 70,000 cars which can be later increased to 200,000 cars.
Toyota is also increasing its dealer network to meet the demand for Etios in India. Its planning to increase its dealership to 150 from current levels of 78.
Toyota Etios hatchback and sedan pricing information is not specifically available, however industry experts expects it to be between Rs.4-7 lacs. Etios will be 70 percent build in India and rest of the components will be supplied by Toyota, The Japanese car maker.
Toyota Etios hatchback and sedan will be launched in small and medium segment in India. As per communication for company executive, Etios hatchback car will compete with likes of Maruti Suzuki's Swift, Hyundai's i20 petrol and Volkswagen's Polo, the sedan version will be positioned along Maruti's DZire and Tata's Manza.
The company however has not taken any decision yet for the launch of Etios diesel variants. A com[any executive has said, "“No decision has been taken yet. As of now, only a gasoline version is in the pipeline." On the possibility of launch of diesel variant launch she further added, "We may come out with a diesel version of Etios (both hatchback and sedan) if there is a demand.”
