Sony with Xperia X8 launch dumps Symbian in favour of Google's Android

With the launch of Xperia X8 Sony wants to make it big at the smartphone arena and the news doesn’t come as a shock to many after we heard the company biding adieu to Nokia’s Symbian platform in favor of Google’s Android. Android is gaining larger chunk of smartphone OS with many top mobile players in the market and Sony is no exception.

Sony has been a Symbian patron for almost a decade but recently the OS focus largely shifted in favor of Google’s Android giving reasons to worry to Symbian which is still at number one. Sony Ericsson will also make handset for recently released Windows 7Phone by Microsoft. With shifting its focus from the Symbian to Android and now to WP7, Sony is definitely up to something big in the smartphone market.

The smartphone has the best experiences of X10 combined with a collection of entertainment features, compact size, style and overall performance. Its 4 corner user interface can be customized with widgets for swift one touch access to the apps most used by you. The smartphone also comes with Sony’s signature app, the Timescape which offers scrolling of menu of the latest emails, music, photos, calls, SMSs, photos and social network updates in a sequential order.

The features of the latest Android ony Xperia X8 are 3-inch scratch resistant screen that is just perfect for browsing, watching movies or playing games. The handset is designed for delivering great entertainment and its virtual QWERTY keypad makes it easier to type SMSs, check status updates on Facebook or Twitter and e-mails. Xperia X8 runs on rather obsolete Android version that is Android v1.6 but is expected to get the same updated with V2.1, also called the ‘Froyo’.

Other features includes an internal memory of 128MB and offers microSD card support to further expand it to up to 16GB. The handset comes with a 3.2 MP fixed focus camera and a number of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and 3G. The phone also has a 3.5 mm headset jack and a USB charger. The other specifications of X8 include stereo GPS, stereo FM and Google Maps. The device runs on 600 MHz processor.
