Samsung Galaxy Tablet PC powered by Android OS announced

Samsung announces its latest Android powered Tablet PC, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab. The announcement came soon after Apple announced its iPad in UK last Friday. It seems that top gadget manufacturers are on a race to launch Android powered Tablet PCs with Samsung joining them with Galaxy Tab. It is interesting to note that Dell is also gearing to launch its tablet PC very soon, called the Dell streak.

Samsung, in the Twitter feed of its South Africa Blog announced some of the features of its Tablet PC powered by Google's Android operating system. It also suggests that the device would be a bigger version of Galaxy S i9000 handset featuring a 7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and a special TouchWiz user interface. According to the images released also feature a phone icon which means that it comes loaded with voice and video call capabilities.

Samsung's Twitter account described the device as the Android-powered device with a promise of’ more pictures to follow'. The account also informed that the tablet has a 3.5 mm jack at the top end of it. Assumptions are high that the tablet will run Samsung's own 1GHz Hummingbird platform (S5PC 110) featuring a dedicated PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor.

South Africa will be the first country to launch the Galaxy Tab but the company will be soon launching it in South Korea via SK Telecom. If the reports from Korea Herald are to be taken correct, Samsung is actually working on 3 Android tablets to be launched later this year. The 7 inch model will be seen first in South Africa followed by 8 inch model due to be released in October and another 10 inch version in December.
