Samsung Galaxy Tab not getting Honeycomb, Motorola Xoom its latest rival

Samsung Galaxy Tab Price

Samsung Galaxy Tab that runs on 1GHz processor is not getting the latest Android upgrade called the Honeycomb. The sad news broke when the managing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert Bobby Cha said that single core processors are not fit to be upgraded to Honeycomb due to hardware limitation.

This is a bad news for Samsung Galaxy Tab, the till date iPad killer, buyers who just have bought their Tabs in the holiday season as the prices of the Galaxy Tab have been further slashed. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is now available at $499 (unlocked).

Not only that the Tab lacks a dual core Cortex A9 CPU but the resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels of its display is another hindrance in getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab an upgrade to Android v 3.0. Samsung Galaxy Tab features a 7-inch display and is not with a resolution of 720 p (1280 x 720) screen which makes it very unlikely to get a boost up to Android 3.0 though Android upgrade to 2.3 is still possible.

The news is still bad at the time around the gadget extravaganza called the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) that features a number of tablets to rival against the iPad namely Motorola Droid Xoom and LG Optimus Pad both boast of dual core processor which means that they are coming with the Android’s latest upgrade the Honeycomb. Interestingly Motorola’s Droid Xoom will be the first product chosen by Google to demonstrate the Honeycomb.

Motorola Droid Xoom features Tegra 2 processor and will be powered by Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Does that mean that Samsung too will launch its latest tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 as the company has ordered for Tagra 2 very recently and would load its Tab2 with Honeycomb? Well, it would be really exciting to see a real tablet war at the CES 2011 with Samsung Galaxy Tab vs. Motorola Droid Xoom.
