Samsung Galaxy S Android based smartphones launch in US with 6 top carriers

Samsung Electronics, the leading manufacturers of electronic goods has launched its Galaxy S Smartphones for the US market and has tied up with 6 of the top carriers in the US for the distribution of the mobile. Samsung Galaxy S is based on Android 2.1. But rumors have it that the phone will be on Android 2.2 when launched.

Samsung Galaxy S phone has a stunning 4 inch AMOLED touchscreen and runs on 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor. The other features of Samsung Galaxy S smartphone include its 3 G connectivity and its build-in storage of 8GB or 16GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone enables you to get 720p video captures with its 5 MP camera. The connectivity features include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. The phone also supports HSPA + and the goodness of the Android éclair. The smartphone also come with a multitude of entertainment, messaging and social networking features and applications.

Samsung Galaxy S is called by various names on different carriers in the US and each one of them adds its unique service and software package to the handset.

On T-Mobiles it will be launched with the name; Samsung Vibrant and will be available on July 21st with a price tag of $199.99. On Verizon the smartphone will be named Samsung Fascinate and comes with the carrier’s own add-ons together with the base specs. The pricing, though is not available to us. The Sprint version of Samsung Galaxy S will be called Sprint Epic G and will include many of the software and services additions. It is also learnt that Epic G will come with Android 2.2 and will be priced at $199.99.

On AT&T the Samsung Galaxy S will be known as Captivate and will come with some additional AT&T services. The pricing of the phone is not yet disclosed. The phone also will be launched on two more carriers, the US Cellular and Cellular South in 2010. The later being the most recent entrant to the Samsung Galaxy S family and is expected to work with US Cellular.
