Renault Koleos, first SUV by Renault to hit Indian roads in 2011

Renault will be launching its compact SUV, the Renault Koleos in the Indian market in 2011. The release of Koleos is expected to make a mark in the SUV or crossover segment aimed at urban Indian audience. The crossover is smaller than the other vehicle in its segment and comes equipped with niche off-road handling.

The vehicle perfectly blends comfort, performance, handling with its neat design and SUV-type looks. The price structure of Renault Koleos is still to be fixed by the company but the vehicle is likely to come with an estimated price of Rs. 15 lac.

Renault Koleos in India will feature 4-cylinder in-line 1995cc diesel engine. The SUV might come with a switchable AWD that you can easily switch between AWD to 2WD. The car’s ground clearance is 188mm and will come with 6-speed manual gearbox.  Koleos 2.0 L 150bhp all-aluminum common rail diesel engine has variable valve timing. The engine generates 150 bhp of power at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 32.6 kgm at 2000 rpm.

The design of Renault Koleos has been done in collaboration with Nissan. The vehicle is company’s first attempt as an SUV or a 4x4 crossover. The car will be manufactured in India at newly developed Nissan-Renault capacity in Chennai. Koleos is pitted against the big international rivals including Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan and Ford Kuga.

The interior of Renault Koleos has features such as stop/start, Bluetooth, cruise control, on-board computer, automatic-on headlamps and wipers. The car has used good quality plastic all around the interior. The boot space offered by the SUV is good 450 L that extends to 1380 l after the rear seats are folded. The top model comes with leather upholstery, satellite navigation and stereo with amazing sound quality. The seats at the rear have soft cushion that provides added comfort while the vehicle bumps. The car offers superb driving position and excellent all-round visibility.

It remains to be seen that whether the Koleos, which is Renault’s debut into the SUV segment will make a it big in the Indian market when it hits the roads by mid -2011.
