RIM, the makers of BlackBerry smartphones is up for yet another smashing phone, the images of which were leaked by the Boy Genius Report. It is believed that the unannounced smartphone by RIM is first by the makers in 2011. The handset codenamed BlackBerry Dakota merge a QWERTY keypad with RIM’s touch screen in a BlackBerry Bold look-alike device.

Dakota will be company’s first device to come with RIM’s newest software on board, the BlackBerry OS 6.1. The handset seems to have great features and specs that make it another path breaking device after the Bold.

BlackBerry Dakota comes with a 2.8-inch touchcsreen with 640 x 480 pixel resolution. It has a 5MP camera with HD video recoding, image stabilization and flash. The connectivity features of the device include GPS, Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and micro USB port. Dakota also supports the latest Near Field Communication feature that we saw recently making its debut on Google Nexus S that enables users to make mobile payments and offers various location based e-commerce services.

Dakota has an internal memory of 4GB and comes with 768MB of RAM. The phone supports Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and has Tri-band UMTS that turns it into a 3G mobile hotspot. The mobile hotspot features of the smartphpne come with RIM’s most recent OS, the BlackBerry OS 6.1update. The smartphone also has accelerometer, proximity sensor and magnetometer.
