Vodafone has announced to open its own application stores in India. On 15th February 2010, countries’ leading cellular service providers, Vodafone started its apps store and had more than 10,000 downloads in the first few days of the launch. The number it seeing an increasing trend as more and more enthused customers are downloading the applications.
The step is a well designed marketing strategy by Vodafone to be ahead of the tough telecom competition in India. The facility offered by Vodafone comes with the handset with internet connectivity. There are over 800 apps offered by Vodafone and 15% of them are offered free of cost by the company.
The cost of other apps ranges from Rs. 5 to Rs. 30. The apps in the store have various categories such as Entertainment, Finance, Social Networking, Games, Utility and many more.
To avail this facility the customer can type APP and send it to toll free Vodafone number 111 and can even access the store via portal Vodafone live just by a simple click at the link on the home page. Vodafone sees the opportunity as a significant step towards the future of mobile internet in the country and of mobile data through these affordable apps.
We have also seen Airtel and Reliance doing the same few months ago. This points towards a growing seriousness for carriers in India as the companies have started thinking about offering applications to its users. The success of Ovi Store by Nokia and Apple app store has shown a rising trend towards such stores. Such a trend will ultimately benefit the customers who will be able to get a wide array of apps to choose from.
Vodafone Essar plans to offer an array of facilities to its users that includes easy access to information, entertainment and utilities. The apps will be regularly updated and more and more apps will be added over the period of time.
