Nissan Micra diesel launch in Dec, expect big things from Nissan soon
The Nissan portfolio in India is going to get expanded with the launch of Nissan Micra diesel in India in December 2010. The 5-seater hatchback in its petrol variant was earlier launched by the company in the month of July.
According to sources the auto manufacturer also plans to bring the sedan version of the Micra based on V-Platform in 2011. An automatic transmission model is also on cards some time next year for the Indian roads. So we can expect that Nissan is up for something big this time in India.
Over the next two years Nissan has some aggressive product launch plans for India. The automobile maker is gearing to launch 9 models in 24 months with 5 manufactured at the Oragadam facility in Chennai. The Chennai plant will also produce units for export to various countries spread in Europe, Middle-East and Africa hence the Nissan-Renault facility is seen as the company’s manufacturing hub for Asia. Nissan plans to market 1 lac units by 2013 for the Indian market.
The diesel variant of Nissan Micra will come with Renault Logan’s 1.5 diesel engine to power the Micra diesel. The three cylinder 1.5 L engine returns with the efficiency figures of 18.06 kmpl according to ARAI.
The diesel engine has already proved its mettle in Logan and we can expect a better mileage given the fact that Micra is a lighter car. The diesel variant of Micra is pitted against Maruti Swift, Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai i10.
The price of diesel Nissan Micra is still not confirmed by the company but we expect the same to be between Rs. 4.50 lac to Rs. 6 lac. The future of Micra seems bright in India with the company facing a backlog of 2500 units that forced the company to double their Chennai unit capacity.
Nissan Micra is a feature rich hatchback offering optimal design with better boot space and minimal turning radius. The car comes with ‘first time in hatch’ features such as Start-top tehnology, key less entry and driver airbag. The car is a complete package of performance, features, safety and comfort, says Nissan.
