LG shifts launch date of its tablet to Q 1 in 2011, waiting for Gingerbread

LG delays the launch of its tablet as it thinks that Android’s version 2.2 is not adequately stable for its tablet. Android 2.2 also called the ‘Froyo’ that powers many smartphones and tablets in the market was initially seen as the OS that would power LG’s tablet but many including Google acknowledges that Android 3.0 also called the ‘Gingerbread’ is the best choice for tablets. LG tablet which is seen as Apple’s iPad killer will not hit the stores until first quarter of 2011.

LG puts on hold the launch of its tablet in anticipation of the new version of Android platform, the Gingerbread which was rumored to be released this month. LG is also the launch partner of Gingerbread with Google but the latest Android version is nowhere in the sight and probably that is why LG has shifted the release of its tablet to a further date.

In the current scenario where tablet war is heating up, every manufacturer aims to bring its tablet as an iPad killer. Very recently we saw Samsung Galaxy Tab’s launch followed by RIM’s PlayBook. While Samsung powered its tablet with Android v2.2, RIM powered it with its very own QNX OS. But Android still remains the number one operating system for many tablet developers. LG’s decision to delay its tablet launch may be seen as another set back for the South Korean company.

According to an official LG spokesperson LG plans to introduce the tablet that runs on the most reliable Android version which is definitely not the Froyo and the company is in talk with Google to decide on the most suitable version for its tablet.

LG Electronics is yet to announce anything officially regarding the timing for its tablet launch but according to a source close to the company the company may introduce the tablet at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas in January. It further said that LG is ready with the hardware of the device but yet to finalize its software. July is seen as the time when LG might launch its first tablet computer during the fourth quarter.
