INQ to launch a touch screen, Android based mobile phone in India!

With the increase in the number of people liking touch screen phones in India, the big players of the US are entering in the field of manufacturing touchscreen phones in our country the latest addition to the list is INQ. INQ has been for long known for making low cost and highly social networking based phones. But the phones are usually bulky and built in with a keyboard.

But the newest addition to the INQ phone roster is not a keypad based one. This one is touchscreen and will be running the Android 2.1 OS. The company has been selling BREW based phones until now and has not been finding much success in the market. Through a recent GigaOM interview, Frank Meehan, the CEO of INQ Mobile, has announced that his company will be releasing its first Android-based touchscreen handset by the end of this year. It seems that the London-based company will not be offering anything else but Android handsets.

This INQ phone can be considered as an attempt by INQ to get into the smartphone market. The company has entered the Indian market and has tied up with Aircel and so it is quite a probability that this phone will be released in India as well. When launched this will be the first real smartphone by INQ in the market.

The release date and price of the phone has not been disclosed until now and there is a good chance that the phone will be released by the end of this quarter at rates which will be within reach of the customers because that is what the company has been known for.

The question still remains whether just the social networking features, touchscreen and low price will be able to attract the Indian masses and whether the phone will be able to survive in a market full of competition.

But, till the specs and details of the phone are not released one can only anticipate the features of this phone and hope for the best.
