Hyundai Santa Fe intro in India at price Rs. 21 lac in SUV segment
Hyundai, India’s second largest automobile maker aims to hit the SUV segment of the country by launching its much popular SUV, Santa Fe this festive season. The South Korean auto maker aims to cash in the festive mood of the country and launched the vehicle around the time of Diwali.
With Santa Fe, Hyundai aims to have an edge for itself in the country’s SUV segment which is yet to explored by auto players and with the success of Santro, i10 and i20, the company is optimistic for Santa Fe as well. The vehicle will be priced between Rs. 20.95 lac –Rs. 22.95 lac in India.
Indian SUV segment has some of the top players namely Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva and Skoda Yeti and among them Hyundai’s Santa Fe has lots to prove to register its dominance especially with the rival Fortuner. Hyundai plans to import the Santa Fe as a complete CBU in India in four vibrant colors and have no plans to manufacture the vehicle within the country until it sees a volume sale here.
Hyundai foresees a sales volume of 100-150 units of Santa Fe in India till the end of 2010 and has also started bookings for the car. The SUV will be available in 2.2 L CDRi turbo engine with 6 speed manual transmission and optional 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive. The engine is capable of developing 197 hp and 422 Nm torque between 1800 and 2,500 rpm. The top speed of the vehicle is 190 km/h. The car gives an ARAI approved mileage of 14.66 kmpl.
Hyundai has sold a total of more than 20 lac units of Santa Fe around the world since its global launch in June 2000. The car maker is confident of making it big in India. H W Park, chief executive officer and MD of HMIL said, “We are confident of its performance in India. Santa Fe will give us a competitive edge in the SUV segment and offer our customers the best in terms of luxury and performance.”
