HTC Evo 4G: First phone with video chat facility available free of cost

HTC’s newest phone on the blocks- the Evo, uses the latest 4G technology that is co-owned by Sprint and ClearWire Corporation. The manufacturers have found a very appropriate use of technology as advanced as this, and have incorporated the video calling feature in their phone.

There were rumors taking rounds that, to use this feature, the subscribers would have to empty their pockets, but those rumors have cleared and now it’s official that the video calling feature in the HTC Evo is free and one does not need to spend a single penny extra to make a video call from this phone.

The HTC Evo 4G video call feature is provided by a company called Qik that has actually built an application in the device which can be used to make a video call. The app uses the front facing 1.3MP camera of the phone and will be available from early next month.

"Rest assured that the core Qik service that lets you communicate live from your phone to other phones, web and desktop will be FREE. Yes - this means that the core capability of doing 2-way Qik video chat will be FREE for Sprint EVO 4G users."- said a blog on the official Qik blog site.

The Qik app has been made very user friendly, to start a video chat one just simply needs to go to the Qik app in the phone menu, select the phone number on which he wants to call from his contacts list and if the person on the other side is also using the Qik app, a video call session is started. It has been left on the user whether he wants to use the front or the back camera; he can either chat face to face or record a video for later streaming.

The Qik app also provides the video mail feature wherein the user can record a video and send it to any of the other Qik users; basically the device uses SMS service to send the link, to the recorded video, to the user at the opposite end.

The free video calling facility fits-in almost perfectly and, at some places, even complements the phone’s features; thus for those who are planning to buy this phone this is a must try app.
