Chevrolet Beat price Rs. 3.34 lac to help GM India sell 1 lac cars in 2010

Chevrolet Beat price in India

General Motors India (GM India) launched global mini car Chevrolet Beat in India at price of Rs 3.34 lac - Rs. 3.94 lac (ex showroom in national capital Delhi). Chevrolet Beat will be launched in 150 countries in Europe, Asia etc. simultaneously and hence Chevrolet Beat is called global mini car.


Chevrolet Beat will also be show cased at Auto Expo 2010 Delhi along with Spark and Aveo small cars from GM India.


General Motors India expect Chevrolet Beat to help achieve GM car sales at one lac units in current financial year 2010 which is an increase of more than 40% over GM car sales in 2009. GM India plans to sell more than 2 lac cars in India by 2012.


Chevrolet Beat is 1.2 litre petrol car with three variants. The diesel variant of Chevrolet Beat will be launched later in 2010 itself. Chevrolet Beat follows Chevrolet cruze in 300 series cars from GM. Chevrolet Beat was developed in a period of 27 months.


In India, Chevrolet Beat will be manufactured at GM plant at Talegaon, Maharashtra. Before launch of Chevrolet Beat, GM India was focused on Spark model.


GM India is hopeful of good sales of Chevrolet Beat in Indian car market after good success of small car Nano from India and other small cars from Maruti etc. GM manufactures 7 GM cars in India and has plans to invest Rs 20,000 crore in its manufacturing plants. GM India will manufacture petrol, diesel and gas variants of cars in India.


Around 60 per cent of Chevrolet Beat components are manufactured at GM India plants and rest are outsourced. GM India will limit the outsourcing to 10 % of Chevrolet Beat parts soon.


GM India is also in talks with SAIC (a Chinese auto company) to launch light commercial vehicles in India. The news joint venture is termed as General Motors SAIC Investment Ltd.


GM India has less than 4 per cent market share in Indian auto market. Given more than 60% annual increase in sales by GM China over 2009 gives GM India of similar improvement in GM car sales in India in 2010.
