Bangalore traffic police adopts Blackberry, Notice books become history

Bangalore traffic police has finally adopted Blackberry as tool for controlling traffic in the city. With this Carbon papers and notice books become history for Bangalore traffic police. Also Bangalore has become first city in India to go hi-tech for traffic control.


Now the Bangalore traffic will be able to keep track of people who frequent breaks traffic rules on crossings. Also they will have updated and live data base of vehicles who need to be tracked. The data from the Blackberry will be uploaded on a website. The drivers will also be able to see their act of traffic rule break online and pay penalty on the same website.


Under this Blackberry assisted Traffic Enforcement project, All the traffic police personnel Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) level and above post will get Blackberry. More than 370 Blackberry handsets have been given so far and another 300 will be given soon. The overall cost of project including adopting Blackberry is estimated at Rs. 40 crore.


Blackberryassisted Traffic Enforcement project is Eco friendly and will replace carbon paper and notice book. The Blackberry can be attached to printers to give printed chalans. The device will also help to manage traffic in jam areas and during peak hours.


Bangalore traffic started experimented with gadget from Simputers company in 2004 for assistance in traffic control in the city. In 2008, it finalized on Blackberry and now it has adopted it on large scale.
